CTC Technology Centre, representing the European ELECTROMET project, participated in the APOLO Stakeholder Workshop, “Novel Technologies for Maritime Power Conversion”, an event dedicated to presenting innovative projects and solutions related to renewable energy and the decarbonisation of maritime transport.
During the event, César Escobar, representing CTC, presented ELECTROMET’s main objectives and technological advances. The project is researching a technology for the direct electrochemical conversion of carbon dioxide (CO₂) into renewable methane using electricity generated from renewable energy sources.

The presentation focused on ELECTROMET’s four main innovation pillars: the development of new electrocatalysts, the optimisation of gas diffusion electrodes, the design and scale-up of the electrochemical reactor, and the implementation of a digital twin for process monitoring, simulation and optimisation.
Although ELECTROMET does not directly develop maritime propulsion systems, its technologies could contribute to the production of renewable methane aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of hard-to-electrify sectors, such as maritime transport.
Participation in the workshop helped strengthen ELECTROMET’s visibility within the European maritime innovation community, promote knowledge exchange with other projects focused on hydrogen, ammonia and renewable fuels, and identify potential synergies for the development of future solutions aimed at reducing emissions from the sector.
The agenda also featured representatives from APOLO, MARPOWER, and GreenMarine, among other European initiatives related to the energy transition and the development of sustainable technologies.
